Emerging Workplace Issues in the Wake of #MeToo

Jennifer Shaw, Founder, Shaw Law Group

The year 2018 was marked by highly publicized sexual harassment scandals that ignited the #MeToo movement. On the one hand, #MeToo heightened awareness about harassment and influenced positive changes in the workplace. On the other, it has created confusion and fear among employees about what is and is not appropriate conduct. Learn about the workplace issues emerging out of the #MeToo movement and how you can prevent them from happening.

Who, What and Wear of Dress Codes in the Workplace

Lisa V. Ryan, Partner, Cook Brown LLP

Erika Frank, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, CalChamber

Business attire has evolved over time. It extends beyond ties and high heels these days to include more relaxed looks. Visible tattoos and piercings, and hair colors that run the rainbow are now acceptable forms of self-expression. While appearances do matter, employers must be mindful of trends and legal protections that impact dress code policies in the workplace. Our experts will address the trends, court decisions and new laws impacting workplace dress and appearance.

Drugs in the Workplace—It's Not Just About Marijuana Anymore

Patricia A. Matias, Shareholder, Ogletree Deakins

"Mellow out" is not what employers want to hear following California's legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes. Employers grapple with real concerns over pre-employment testing and how to handle employees who appear impaired. What about the impact on job safety and performance from misuse of opioids and prescription medications? Leave with helpful steps to maintain a drug-free workplace without encroaching on the rights of employees.

3:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
